A native Berliner of half Arabic origin, Item No né Steve El-Ali left the rap and hip-hop scene for techno in the summer of 1997. Early on, he developed an interest for spinning, quickly finding the opportunity to take to the decks for the first time at an after-hours party. It didn’t take long until he was buying his own records, primarily in different minimal styles. Nearly a year later in 1998, he let loose with audiences all over Berlin, playing in various cafes and bars for a year. Here, the opportunity to play in various after hours venues presented itself, culminating in his appearance at Tresor in 1999, where he would come to spin regularly for the next two years. Other clubs and venues continued to show interest, including the Glashaus, Non Tox, and open-air events.

In 2001, Item No began producing his own music. His live-act debut was at the third NetLag Party in 2006.
